The violent incident occurred in the middle of the afternoon at a house located on Bentwood Drive in Westampton. The suspects, two males, reportedly broken into the residence and were in the process of stealing various possessions when the homeowner returned. The suspects promptly ran out a side door and headed toward a Chevrolet Tahoe parked nearby.
The homeowner chased after the suspects and reportedly got into a physical altercation with them. During the ensuing struggle, the suspects allegedly kicked the victim in the face. Additionally, one of the suspects allegedly used an X-ACTO knife to stab the victim across his abdomen, resulting in a two-inch cut.
After reportedly attacking the victim, the suspects got into their motor vehicle and drove out of the neighborhood.
The victim subsequently dialed 911 and notified local law enforcement. However, the suspects were gone from the area by the time Westampton police officers arrived at the scene.
Authorities have not revealed what the suspects stole from the Westampton residence.
Detectives with the Westampton Township Police Department are actively investigating the theft offense. If investigators can eventually determine the identities of the suspects and apprehend them, it is likely that a number of criminal charges would follow. The suspects would almost certainly be charged with burglary, theft, and aggravated assault. Additionally, since the theft attempt reportedly involved violence and the use of a deadly weapon, it is possible that the suspects could also be charged with robbery.
