Child Pornography Charges Against Cranford Man

Possession of child pornography charges have been filed against a 41-year-old Cranford, New Jersey man, according to a criminal complaint filed on July 26, 2019. According to the complaint, Joseph Hinksmon was arrested after officers removed multiple computers and other electronics from his home on July 24, 2019.

The computers and other devices contained more than 10,000 pictures and 1,000 videos depicting child pornography, including prepubescent children who were being sexually abused. The announcement regarding the arrest was made by United States Attorney Craig Carpenito.

Hinksmon is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Newark federal court on Friday, August 2 in front of United States Magistrate Judge Cathy L. Waldor. If he is convicted, Hinksmon faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a maximum fine of $250,000.

Hinksmon was charged with one count of possession of child pornography. He is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The information released in the criminal complaint is merely an accusation.

Seek the Help of a Criminal Defense Attorney

When faced with any criminal charge, including possession of child pornography, you need to seek the help of a criminal defense attorney instead of attempting to represent yourself in court. You do not know how to handle yourself in a courtroom, how to speak to a judge or how to negotiate a plea deal with the prosecutor. A criminal defense attorney can help you with any of the following during the life of your case:

  • Reviewing the arrest and search warrant
  • Speaking to witnesses
  • Obtaining the police report and interviewing the arresting officer
  • Speaking to expert witnesses
  • Negotiating a plea deal with the prosecutor
  • Reviewing your case and providing an honest assessment
  • Explaining the penalties you could face if convicted
  • Filing an appeal for your case
  • Looking for different loopholes in the law
