Husband of NJ “Real Housewives” Star Goes to Prison for Fraud, Faces Deportation

Joe Giudice recently reported to federal prison in New Jersey and will likely be subject to deportation after he completes his sentence for committing fraud against the US government.

Giudice is married to Teresa Giudice, one of the stars on the Bravo reality TV series “Real Housewives of New Jersey.” In 2014, the married couple pleaded guilty to bankruptcy fraud charges in connection with what were considered “glaring omissions” on their financial disclosure forms when filing for bankruptcy. The Giudices reportedly failed to include expensive items such as motor vehicles and home furnishings.

In addition to owning up to the couple’s collective fraud, Joe Giudice admitted to failing to pay $200K in personal income taxes.

After pleading guilty, Teresa Giudice was sentenced to a term of incarceration of 15 months in federal prison. Meanwhile, Joe Giudice was sentenced to 41 months behind bars. Additionally, the couple was ordered to pay back more than $400,000 in restitution.

Teresa was allowed to serve her sentence first because the couple has four young daughters and the judge in the case did not want the children to be without both of their parents at the same time. Once Teresa completed her sentence, in December 2015, the process of getting Joe behind bars began.

When Joe Giudice finally reported to prison, he was accompanied by Teresa, as well as his brother, his sister and several of his friends. Joe will have to serve a minimum of 35 months in Fort Dix federal prison before he becomes eligible for release on parole. However, that likely won’t be the end of his problems. That’s because Joe Giudice is an Italian citizen, not a U.S. citizen. As a result of his conviction on felony charges, he will face deportation once he finishes his prison sentence.
