Earlier in July, a man in his late 40’s both assaulted and robbed an elderly woman, who was 85 years of age. The man had also been charged with attempted murder for his actions the night of the crime. It is said that he was in the woman’s home in South Ward when the incident occurred. Although the incident took place in mid-July, he was not found until recently.
Officials say the assaulter knew the woman he attacked and robbed, but they have not given any more details as to how they knew each other.
Around 10 p.m., there was a call to the police regarding an assault on the elderly woman. It wasn’t until the police arrived on the scene that it was noted how the assaulter took an unspecified amount of cash and other pieces of property that were not disclosed.
Immediately following the incident, the woman was treated at a nearby hospital for all of her injuries. Police officials did not specify how the attacker got in, how he attacked her, or how they found him, but he was later taken into custody for the attempted murder. He has also been charged with robbery, burglary, and stolen property. The attacker’s case has not yet gone to trial, but it is expected to very soon.
